The Country and Eastern Band, fronted by Paula Darwish blends the drive of rock with the rhythms and melodies of the East. The music seamlessly blends songs in Turkish, Kurdish and English that could have been written anytime from 1600 to the present day. If that doesn’t mean anything to you think .. the Cranberries meets Tinariwen with a touch of Gram Parsons….. and you are getting close. This band is equallly as comfortable on an Indie night as they are on a world music stage. They have played an eclectic mix of venues in the North West and elsewhere, refusing to be pigeonholed as a "world music" act .

2006 is their 4th year of residency at the Iguana Bar in Chorlton, Manchester. They also host one of the North West’s few world music nights – Club Couscous which mixes live music with Dj grooves from the Middle East, North Africa and Anatolia.

This is my fave band song and I remember it from the last gig despite being a bit of a chav when it comes to foreign languages. This is the best live band I’ve seen in a long time. Nice to hear something different to shoe gazing indie boyz.

Have your say!

Next gig

No upcoming gigs. Boo.

Nearly there!

In what can only be described as "incredible periods of inactivity" the two naughty boys behind Listen To have finally got their fingers out and created the all new Listen To Manchester. Over the next few months we'll be adding loads of new features, but we'd love your help with the site as it stands right now.

So if you spot any problems, or have anything to say at all about the new site (comments, criticisms, great ideas that we can steal and become millionaires with) then get in touch!
