Hawthorns comprise of four young lads from South Manchester. It has now been just over a year since the band made its arrival on the Manchester circuit, and in this time they have made significant steps. After playing The Manchester Roadhouse the boys were placed on the SJM tour list. A subsequent gig at The Blue Cat Café, saw the band invited to appear on the café-cum-label’s album, Out of The Blue, featuring Inspiral Carpets front man Tom Hingley and Haven. Musically, the Mancunian influences are ever present- The Stone Roses, Doves, The Chameleons, being just a few examples- though add to this list anything from Jefferson Airplane to Cast. Lyrically, reflections on everyday life and another key concern, The Beat Generation, add resonance to the songs. Any real comparison is hard and it is this, which makes the Hawthorns’ ‘sound’ so refreshing. The future looks bright for a band, intent on making their sound heard.
