Valium Skies are a Greater Manchester/Lancashire based band, drawing influence from all styles and genres gone before, but mainly keeping with a Manchester-ish sound. It started when founding member and guitarist Ric Dixon, met lead vocalist and co-founding member Scott Heaton, in the Rochdale branch of Anne Summers around mid 2008, later claiming that they were both looking for presents for their ‘partners’. There was an immediate and colossal meeting of pure musical genius’s and much sexual tension. During the explosive aftermath Valium Skies were conceived (not literally, that would be both dark and impossible).
Ric and Scott set about writing and after a few months Tej Chauhan (an old school friend of Scotts) joined the band adding another dimension to the band with his unique keyboard style. After a few line up changes of the rhythm section that didn’t work out for one reason or another an advert was placed for a gifted bass player and drummer.
Dave Bass Player Cooper ,who can get from south Manchester to the rehearsal room on just a thimble full of petrol, and Toddy Drummer Rigg, always 10 minutes late, each viewed the advert on a join my band website and applied. They both claim they have never been on that website before or since.
After a number of auditions , when nobody else turned up , Dave and Toddy joined the band.
With Ric and Scott having already written a number of the songs, the new lineup set about jamming around with those songs rather than playing them as they were originally written.
They found with added keyboards , new drums and bass on board, and the new members ideas that the songs changed beyond all recognition, and for the better.
Since then the band have formed a sound which differs them from most of the average sounding bands in and around Manchester today. The band love to experiment with a variety of styles and sounds, there is no one band that our music is akin to. The flavour varies from emotional, epic to up-beat and heavy.
